Residents of Gomoa Aboso in the Central region woke up to the discovery of the lifeless body of a newborn baby on a refuse dump.
According to the Assembly Member for the area, Isaac Gyesi Korsah, the baby was found by the residents on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, wrapped in a cloth and placed in a black polythene bag.
Condemning the act, the assemblyman warned his constituents to refrain from such acts.
Meanwhile, the residents heaped curses on the unknown mother of the baby.
This is one of many such cases of abandoned babies that have plagued the country.
Information gathered indicated that a group of women who were on their way to the forest for prayer heard the distinct cries of the infant.
Fortunately, an ambulance using the Achimota route was forced to stop and rescue the baby, who made it safely to the hospital.
On August 15, 2023, a three-month-old baby girl was abandoned in an uncompleted building in the Gomoa area of the Central Region.
Also, on July 26, roving dogs found a day-old baby boy abandoned in a bush at Kasoa Ofaakor in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.
Residents noticed the dogs’ reactions and followed them, only to discover that a fresh baby had been dumped in the bush.
