New Year resolutions that simply don’t work
Do your New Year’s resolutions look eerily similar to the ones from last year and the year before? Don’t worry; you are not alone.
The majority of us give up on our resolutions before the year ends, and some don’t even make it to the end of the month. What makes it so difficult to stick to a resolution?
Are you simply setting yourself up for failure when you make certain resolutions? It may be a new year, but you’re still the same old you. As such, you should avoid making certain resolutions that simply don’t work. Here are some of them.
Diet Change
It’s not easy to wake up one day and decide to switch to a healthy diet. For successful fitness enthusiasts, it takes discipline to stick to their diets, which most of us don’t have. Therefore, making a new year’s resolution to change your diet will almost certainly fail. Instead, you can start by giving up one or two unhealthy foods, and eventually, you can embrace a completely healthy diet.
Social Life
You may feel pressured to makes resolutions like “Go skydiving” or “bungee jumping” when all you really want is to cozy up with a good book every weekend. While there’s nothing wrong with getting out of your comfort zone and boosting your social skills, it’s difficult to jump from being a homebody to the life of the party. It may seem like extroverts have the most fun, but there are lots of fun activities for introverts that you can explore.
Wellness
It’s more important than ever to connect with your inner self this year. However, choosing to be more spiritual is a personal decision that requires growth and proper understanding. It’s easy to say that you’ll meditate for 10 minutes every day than to actually do it. As such, listing it as a new year’s resolution might not work for most people.
Quit Drinking/Smoking
It’s basically an anthem every year for many to quit drinking or smoking. This is also one of the hardest resolutions to stick to since it involves breaking an addictive habit. It’s even more difficult if you’re still in the same environment that prompts you to drink or smoke. Not to mention, it takes a lot of commitment and willpower to break such habits.
Learn A New Skill
Learning a new skill could help you get a promotion at work, boost your CV, or help you become a better person. However, time and resources aside, the thought of reading educational materials puts most people off. Though it’s something we should all strive to achieve each year, it’s also one of those resolutions that many people break.
