The Ghana Police Service has withdrawn the injunction suit filed against the #DumsorMustStop protest, spearheaded by actress Yvonne Nelson, political activist Selorm Dramani Dzramado, and Henry Osei Akoto.

The police discontinued the legal action after the protesters submitted another plan reflecting changes suggested by law enforcement officers.

The new proposal contains a change of venue, date and time for the ‘dumsor’ vigil.

Initially planned for May 25, 2024, at Revolution Square near the Jubilee House, the protest has been rescheduled for June 8, 2024. The place of convergence will be in front of the University of Ghana, from where protesters will walk to the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout.

At the hearing of the case in court today [May 24, 2024], the police agreed to drop the injunction against the protest due to the change of date, time and venue, which were of concern.

It will be recalled that the Ghana Police Service filed an injunction on May 22, 2024, to stop the #DumsorMustStop protest, citing the convergence venue, Revolution Square, as a security zone.

Also, the police emphasized that “midnight for closure may compromise security which may lead to violence, endanger public defence, public order, public safety, public health and the running of essential services”.

Meanwhile, the conveners are yet to receive an invitation from the police to discuss the modalities for the demonstration.

The conveners have assured the police and the public that the demonstration will be peaceful and orderly and that they will work to ensure that public order is maintained.

The pending protest aims to voice the negative impact of the country’s current intermittent power supply.

According to the conveners, a podium will be mounted at the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout for a series of speeches addressing the power crisis.
