New Akufo-Addo statue set to return to Sekondi Roundabout

A new statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is ready and expected to be reinstalled at the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital Roundabout in Sekondi, according to Prophet Elisha Joshua, an independent parliamentary candidate for Evalue Gwira.

The original statue was mysteriously removed shortly after the 2024 general elections.

It had been mounted to honour President Akufo-Addo’s contributions to the Western Region.

Prophet Joshua, who had earlier promised to restore it, says the new version has been completed and will soon be returned to its original spot.

Speaking in an interview, Prophet Joshua said the delay in reinstalling the statue was due to concerns about ongoing road construction.

With the road now finished, there are no longer any obstacles.

“The main reason why the statue was dismantled was that they claimed the road was not completed. Now, the road has been completed and the statue can be erected without any challenges of opposition from anyone,” he said.

He condemned the removal of the statue, calling it an act of political intolerance that could set a bad example for the future.

Prophet Joshua is currently planning to meet with local leaders to get official approval before reinstalling the statue.

“The roundabout and the pillar are still in place. The new statue is ready, and all that is left is to agree on a date,” he added.
