The aggrieved staff of the Northern Electricity Company Limited (NEDCo) has petitioned the Minister of Energy, Dr Mattew Opoku Prempeh, demanding the removal of their Managing Director(MD) Osman Aludiba Ayuba.
They attributed their displeasure with Mr. Ayuba to a worsening financial situation since he took office.
According to the staff, the MD lacks a clear strategy for running the company.
They also quoted exorbitant sole-source procurement of point-of-sale devices and worsening distribution losses as some of their reasons.
The group had initially petitioned the Board of Directors to remove Mr. Ayuba.
The Board’s failure to heed their demand led the staff to partially withdraw their services on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, until further notice.
All field services have been suspended except for emergency and power vending situations.
The emergency cases include broken conductors, broken poles, transformers on fire, pole burning etc.
William Kwame Asare, the Senior Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of NEDCo said they were expecting a favorable response from the Energy Minister.
He said they were ready to rally behind a common goal to uplift NEDCo but until then, they will not call off their partial withdrawal of services.
Meanwhile, the MD has denied all allegations leveled against him.
He said decisions were taken in the best interest of the company and called on the staff to exercise restraint and allow the board to address all issues raised.
