Nduom’s retirement opens floodgate for PPP Presidential Aspirants

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has opened nominations following the bow out of founder Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom.

Shortly after elections of executives to serve for the next four years, the party has announced that they “do not expect Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom to become the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2020 elections”.

Consequently, “the field is wide open for all interested contenders to demonstrate the formidability of the party, in restoring Ghana’s hope and glory”.

National Secretary of the PPP, Paa Kow Ackon, said in a statement that “an expedited, virtual selection process has been adopted for this exercise” of selecting a presidential candidate.

The party said it was poised to improve its electoral fortunes in the 2020 polls with the hope of representation in parliament.

“The PPP has earned the most votes at the presidential and parliamentary levels only behind the duopoly since 2012 when the party was formed. We are determined to improve upon this past performance, as we batten down, ready to form the next government and be represented in Parliament,” he added.

The PPP was formed in 2012 by Dr Nduom, after failing in his presidential bid as he contested on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the 2008 general election.

PPP seeks power to implement an agenda for change built on Stewardship, Education, Healthcare and Jobs. PPP plans to implement the agenda using the spirit of inclusiveness, and full participation of women and youth. Most importantly, PPP has stated that it will maintain an incorruptible leadership.
