NDC Youth & Women Conference halted after confusion

Proceedings have halted at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) where some 1,972 delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have gathered to elect National Youth Organiser and National Women’s Organiser for the party.

The 10th Youth and Women Conference is being held ahead of the national delegates’ congress in Accra on Saturday, December 17.

However, reports say some national executives are meddling in the elections and have already taken sides.

The reports saw supporters of some candidates express their anger at seeing some national executives at the venue.

National Chairman of the party Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi are among the national executives spotted at the conference.

Central Region Communications Director Gabriella Tetteh explained that one of the candidates for the National Youth Organiser position raised concerns about a “certain” list.

This forced an emergency meeting of leadership with the two candidates to address the concerns.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the NDC, Alex Segbefia, justified the expansion of the electoral college of the party, stating that it was to make vote buying unattractive.

“We are actually quite happy because it is clear that the NDC is alive and well and everybody wants to be part of the new government-in-waiting that is coming.”

The theme for the Conference is: ‘Rallying for Victory 2024, Ghana’s Hope’.
