NDC youth protests Supreme Court verdict on Kpandai

Members of the youth wing of the National Democratic Congress in Kpandai took to the streets on Monday, urging the party leadership to request a review of the Supreme Court ruling that reversed a High Court decision which had annulled the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary election won by Matthew Nyindam of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The demonstrators marched along the main street of Kpandai, chanting “No Nsala, no NDC in Kpandai,” as they pressed for decisive action from the national leadership of the party.

The protesters asserted that the NDC must adopt a strong stance as the ruling party and reject the recent Supreme Court ruling unless it results in a rerun of the parliamentary election in the constituency.

They urged the party leadership to seek a review of the judgment and to enforce discipline among constituency executives, whom they accused of inadequately representing the interests of party members.

The youth group stated that the protest aimed to safeguard the party’s credibility and to pursue justice for its supporters in Kpandai.

After the protest march, leaders of the youth group addressed the media, calling on the party’s national executive and legal directorate to apply for a judicial review of the judgment once the full reasoning of the Supreme Court is made public on February 6, 2026.

In a press statement, the group claimed they had a robust legal case at the Tamale High Court.

They argued that the High Court judgment in favor of the NDC was founded on “sound legal reasoning,” which included alleged defective gazette notifications, inconsistencies in publication dates, and what they characterised as the Electoral Commission’s (EC) failure to fulfill its constitutional duty of neutrality.

Despite their strong demands, the youth group reiterated their commitment to peace and constitutionalism, urging supporters to remain calm while the legal processes are pursued.

“We remain committed to peace, legality, and constitutionalism. But peace must never be confused with silence in the face of injustice. Kpandai deserves justice,” the group declared.
