The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended its Central Regional Chairman, Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, and Assin Central Constituency Secretary, Sadique Broni Yeboah, for a month over anti-party conduct.
This comes after the withdrawal of Nurein Shiabu Migyimah from his position as the party’s Assin Central parliamentary candidate over alleged immoral acts and anti-party conduct.
A letter signed by the Regional Secretary said the NDC’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee investigated reports of the parliamentary candidate’s behaviour.
His alleged immoral behaviour included accusations of impregnating the wife of the constituency’s General Secretary.
However, the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, after a meeting in Accra, said the letter that announced Mr Migyimah’s withdrawal is null and void.
The NDC leadership subsequently suspended the central regional chairman regarding the letter, citing concerns that it violated due process.
“The letter originating from the Secretariat of the Central Region NDC purporting to withdraw the candidacy of the said Assin Central candidate, Comrade Migyimah, and further suspending his membership of the party, is null and void and stands withdrawn.
“Accordingly, Comrade Migyimah remains the NDC Parliamentary Candidate of Assin Central for the upcoming general elections in December 2024,” Mr Kwetey declared.
Meanwhile, Mr Migyimah has denied the allegations of immoral acts and anti-party conduct against him.
Speaking to the media after the withdrawal, Mr Migyimah was confident that he would be cleared of all allegations after the regional disciplinary committee adjudicated the matter.
He also expressed optimism towards the 2024 general elections.
“l believe, and I know whatever allegation, anything they’ve said or whatever it is, after I go through the right party structures, I’ll be vindicated. God being so good, God willing, ‘Inshallah’, on December 7, I’m going to win the election,” he said.
