Dr. Kwabena Duffour has withdrawn his injunction application against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential and parliamentary primaries slated for Saturday, May 13, 2023.
The former Finance Minister filed a writ on Tuesday, May 9 arguing that the party had failed to provide the required photo album register five weeks ahead of the elections as stated in the party’s rules.
He had raised concerns about the credibility of the photo album register and asked the party to postpone its upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries until the proper thing was done.
Per the writ, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana was seeking three main reliefs.
First, he was asking the court for a “declaration that the Photo Album Register issued by the 1st defendant and 2nd defendants to the Plaintiff on 4 May 2023 as the primary document for conducting the internal Presidential election of the National Democratic Congress on the 13 of May 2023 is incomplete and inaccurate.”
Secondly, he was praying to the court for “an order directing the 1st and 2nd defendants to prepare and deliver a complete and accurate Photo Album Register to the Plaintiff and other presidential aspirants of the National Democratic Congress at least five weeks ahead of the elections to enable the aspirants to carry out the needed verification of the Photo Album Register.”
Lastly, Dr. Duffuor was seeking “an injunction restraining the 1st, 2nd, and 5th defendants from conducting the internal presidential elections of the National Democratic Congress on 13 May 2023 pending compliance with second reliefs [as stated above].”
But on Friday, May 12, 2023, the NDC flagbearer hopeful withdrew the case to resolve his grievances internally.
The NDC is now expected to proceed with its primaries to elect a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates on Saturday ahead of the 2024 elections.
