NDC communicator and 2 others remanded for removing Eugene Arhin’s posters
The Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya West constituency, Cassius Otoo Larbi, and two others have been remanded in police custody by the Awutu Bereku District Court.
The suspects reportedly removed posters belonging to New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate Eugene Kofi Bentum Arhin without authorisation.
The posters were allegedly taken down from a machine used for the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).
At the court presided over by Her Ladyship Naomi Konto, it was revealed that the accused also threatened to deal with an eyewitness who caught them removing the posters.
Following a five-day remand, the suspects will reappear in court on Monday, September 16, 2024.
Meanwhile, the NDC parliamentary candidate and incumbent MP for the same constituency, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, has also raised concerns over the removal of her posters. She described the remand over her members as “petty”.
However, District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya West, Moses Arhinful Acquah, clarified that the case was not solely about the removal of posters but the threat made against an eyewitness who earlier advised the group to stop removing them.
The DCE also cited an instance where Cassius Otoo Larbi and others, reportedly disrupted the presidential candidate of the NPP, Mahamudu Bawumia’s, address at the annual Awubia Festival by playing loud music.
According to Mr. Acquah, the recalcitrant behaviour of the communications officer had drawn the attention of national security operatives.
