The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed sadness following the passing of the former Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Michael Kwabena Ntumy.
In a statement issued and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party described Mr Ntumy as a great man whose absence would be felt.
“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is deeply saddened by the death of Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy, esteemed former chairman of The Church of Pentecost.
“Apostle Dr. Ntumy’s unwavering commitment to spiritual leadership and community development has left an enduring legacy as his profound contributions were a blessing to both the church and the nation,” parts of the statement read.
The NDC extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, The Pentecost Church and the entire Christian community during this challenging time.
“May his memory continue to inspire and bring solace to those who knew him.”
Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy, the fourth chairman of the Church of Pentecost (COP), died on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at age 65.
Apostle Ntumy began his full-time ministry with The Church of Pentecost at age 26. He was called to the office of an apostle at age 33, and six years later, he was elected the fourth chairman of The Church of Pentecost and served from 1998 to 2008.
After serving for two terms (10 years), he handed over to Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah due to his ill health.
He is known to have survived many challenges which include being held hostage in rebel territory (Liberian Civil War-1990’s), attacks on his life ranging from physical assaults to poisoning and paralysis leading to his confinement to a wheelchair until his demise.
Apostle Ntumy was a great writer who authored several books and played a pivotal role in writing the church’s annual devotional and other spiritual books as he served as the Director of Literary Works of The Church of Pentecost.
Apostle Ntumy retired from active service as an Apostle of the church late this year.
An official retirement service was held for him and his family on September 24, 2023, in Hamburg, Germany, after 39 years in the ministry.
