Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ejisu-Juaben Constituency of the Ashanti Region have reportedly locked up the office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in protest over what they describe as an unfair appointment process.
According to reports, the constituency executives carried out the protest after expressing strong dissatisfaction with the appointment of a new NHIS director in the area.
The party executives claim the decision was made without consulting the constituency leadership, despite the constituency leadership’s role in mobilising grassroots support for the party during elections.
The aggrieved executives, led by their constituency organiser, Sani Shaibu, argue that the appointment overlooks several qualified party members within the constituency who contributed significantly to the party’s political success.
He says such decisions undermine the efforts and sacrifices of local party officials who worked tirelessly to secure electoral victories.
“We worked hard for the party; we have educated men in Ejisu-Juabeng constituency as well,” Shaibu stated during an interview.
When questioned about the illegality of their action, he said that “I don’t care about arrest or police invite, I am ready to fight for my NDC members as their organizer”.
Speaking during the protest, some executives indicated they would continue to demand transparency and proper consultation in government appointments within the constituency.
They insist that party structures at the grassroots level must be respected in the decision-making process.
The action led to the temporary closure of the NHIS office, affecting operations at the facility as officials and residents were unable to access services while the protest was ongoing.
