Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region handed over the Manhyia South Organizer of the Party to the police this morning, insisting the party will not condone intimidation and selective police action.
Alhaji Mustapha Alhassan was invited by the police over a video in which he is seen threatening political violence.
The NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman, Nana Kwasi Andrews, stated that the interest of the police in the matter was selective, arguing that the sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had made worse comments and gone scot-free.
“We have seen various videos, including that of KT Harmond and what have they done about that? We want everyone to know that the party is not going to sit down for anyone to cheat us in the 2024 elections. We are going to resist any threats that come to the party,” he pointed out.
Mr. Andrews, however, indicated that the party condemned the inflammatory comments of the organizer in light of ensuring peace and order in the country.
“What I will tell the people of Ashanti Region is that what the organizer said was not good and the party is going to condemn it,” he said.
“The party is a law-abiding party and we are not going to do anything that will destabilize Ashanti. But we will be firm and vigilant,” he added.
The party has since moved in a convoy from the Ashanti Regional Office in the company of supporters to present Alhaji Mustapha Alhassan to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
