The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of holding a grudge over his role in the 2016 elections, claiming this animosity is driving the party to work against his bid.
Speaking to supporters in Okaikwei South, Dr. Bawumia said the NDC often resorts to insults whenever he is mentioned, a reaction he attributes to the intensity of the 2016 campaign.
“The 2016 campaign was a heated one, and that is why the NDC does not like me,” he said, emphasizing that he remains focused despite the criticism.
He further alleged that the NDC is actively trying to influence NPP delegates to vote for another candidate in the party’s upcoming primary on January 31, 2026.
“Why should a different party decide who becomes the candidate for your party? I do not believe the constituents of Okaikwei South will allow that,” he added.
The NPP primary is expected to be highly competitive, with five aspirants contesting: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Assin Central MP Ken Ohene Agyapong; Abetifi MP and former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong; former Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former party General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
