The Awutu Senya East Municipality branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is seeking justice for Ato Odoom, a member who was fatally shot during a coronation ceremony at Awutu Bereku on Tuesday evening.
The victim, an instrumentalist, was reportedly performing with a brass band during the swearing-in of some traditional leaders at Awutu Breku when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Ato was quickly rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for treatment where he was pronounced dead.
The NDC claims the suspect is a bodyguard of the Awutu Senya East MP and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa-Koomson, and has been identified as the boundary chief of Awutu Ofaakor, popularly known as Twa Sa.
On Wednesday, NDC Parliamentary candidate Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor and party members besieged the Kasoa Divisional Police Command, demanding immediate action against the suspect.
Addressing journalists, Naa Koryoo emphasized that the culprit must be brought to book, and the party will closely monitor the case.
NDC Communications Officer Stephen Delali vowed to follow the matter closely, ensuring justice is served.
In a related development, the Ghana Police Service arrested Nai Akwasi Lartey on September 3, 2024, in connection with the shooting incident.
Lartey is alleged to have shot and killed Ato Odoom.
The suspect is in police custody, assisting in the investigation.
The incidents have sparked outrage among NDC members who are calling for swift action against the suspect.
