The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has assured that the party’s upcoming congress will be peaceful and transparent.
The assurance follows the chaos and assault that marred their Women and Youth Organiser elections held in Cape Coast last Saturday.
Mr Gyamfi, who is also seeking re-election on December 17, said the party has taken a cue from last Saturday’s election and has put in place appropriate measures to prevent any future occurrence.
“Adequate security measures have been put in place. We are working with the Ghana Police Service. Our internal party security will also be here to complement their efforts.
“We’ve learned lessons from what happened in Cape Coast, and we can assure the rank and file of the party that we will not have any such occurrence here on Saturday. So, be rest assured that security will not be a problem at all,” he said.
The National Communications Officer insists despite the name-calling and bickering among some candidates, the party remains united in achieving one goal come 2024.
“The NDC is not doomed. The NDC, as a matter of fact, is getting stronger and stronger. In every contest, there is a possibility of some acrimony and disagreements, but once the contest is over, you’ll realise that we are one big family. We love ourselves.
“We have a common goal, and you can be assured that after all is said and done after newly elected executives are sworn-in, we will unite and come together as one and work for the progress of the National Democratic Congress,” he added.
About 9,000 delegates are expected at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, December 17, to elect the party’s leaders who will run the affairs leading up to the 2024 elections.
The theme for this year’s congress is Rallying for Victory 2024-Ghanaian Hope.
