NDC announces nationwide ‘demo’ over voter register errors

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to stage nationwide demonstrations on September 17, 2024, over discrepancies in the voter register.

The party had earlier highlighted inconsistencies discovered during the 2024 voter exhibition exercise.

Following an emergency meeting to address these discrepancies with the Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday, September 6, 2024, the NDC requested a forensic audit of the voter register.

The party in a brief statement said: “We believe that the same entity that created the problem should not be the one to resolve it. This is why we have referral systems in the healthcare sector”.

However, the EC turned down the request.

This did not go down well with party leadership hence their decision to protest the commission’s handling of their concerns.

Speaking after the submission of the presidential nomination forms on behalf of John Mahama, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, announced that party members will march to all 16 EC regional offices nationwide.

“On the 17th of this month, the NDC is embarking on a massive nationwide demonstration in all 16 regional capitals. Descend on the electoral commission officers and we in Accra will descend to the headquarters and present further petitions as to why we think that they should conduct themselves in a manner that will guarantee peaceful, free and fair election,” he said.
