The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has announced plans to intensify public awareness campaigns in response to a growing wave of online fraud across the country.
Oti Regional Director Robert Kwesi Boame said recent intelligence shows a rise in scams involving fake online shops and fraudulent accounts pretending to represent legitimate companies.
He explained that all regional and district offices have been instructed to include digital fraud prevention in their regular civic education programs.
The upcoming awareness campaign will teach citizens how to verify online vendors, adopt safer internet practices, confirm information from reliable sources, and report suspicious activity to law enforcement.
Mr. Boame revealed that losses from online fraud rose sharply from GH¢2.4 million in the first quarter of 2024 to GH¢4.4 million in the same period in 2025, an 83% increase.
He also warned that online scams tend to spike during the festive season and urged the public to remain extra vigilant as the yuletide approaches.
