NCA To Introduce Shortcode To Verify SIMs Linked To Ghana Cards
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced plans to create a system allowing Ghanaians to easily verify the number of SIM cards linked to their Ghana Cards.
With reports of increasing numbers of SIM cards being linked to people’s Ghana Cards, many have been calling for a common and simple system to verify the number of SIM cards linked to their cards.
In a social media post, the NCA disclosed that it has been engaging with various telecommunication networks to launch a shortcode enabling subscribers to verify the number of SIM cards linked to their Ghana Cards.
According to the NCA, subscribers will only need to type in the shortcode on their phones.
After a verification process using their Ghana Card pin, the number of SIMs associated with the Ghana Card will be displayed.
The NCA further stated that the shortcode would be ready by the end of April, and subscribers will not need to physically visit any telecom service centres for verification.
The SIM re-registration exercise began in October 2021 and is aimed at ridding the country’s cyberspace of fraud and monitoring and tracking down persons who use their phones for criminal activities.
The launch of the shortcode will further enhance the government’s efforts to secure the country’s cyberspace.
