NCA Governing Board to be inaugurated on Oct 4
The governing board of the National Communications Authority (NCA) is expected to be sworn into office to steer the affairs of the regulatory body on Monday, 4 October 2021.
The event is scheduled to take place at the NCA office in Accra.
Minister of Communication, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, is expected to swear in the nine-member board mandated to ensure the effective performance of the functions of the NCA.
The new members are:
Mr Isaac Emmil Osei Bonsu, Mr Joe Anokye, Mr Kwabena Adu Boahene, Mr Alexander Nii Katey, Hon. Ama Pomaa Boateng, Mr Patrick A. Boateng, Dr Eugene Owusu and Ama A. S. Daaku.
Board members are expected to hold office for a period not exceeding four years and eligible for re-appointment, but a member shall not be appointed for more than two terms.
This does not apply to the Director-General of the NCA.
The board usually comprises of the chairperson; the Director-General; one representative of the National Security Council, the National Media Commission and the Ministry of Communications, not below the rank of a director.
Provision is also made for one person with experience and expertise in communications; and three other persons, at least one of whom is a woman and each of whom has knowledge and expertise in electrical engineering, law, business or public administration.
The National Communications Authority was established by an Act of Parliament, Act 524, in December 1996, which was repealed and replaced by the National Communications Authority Act, 2008 (Act 769).
The Authority is the statutory body mandated to license and regulate electronic communication activities and services.
