Nationwide voting begins as NPP selects flagbearer for 2028 elections

Voting is currently underway nationwide as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) begins the process of selecting its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.

In the Odododiodioo Constituency, voting is taking place at the Jamestown Police Station, where 1,314 delegates are expected to cast their ballots.

The Ashiedu-Keteke District Electoral Officer, Eric Okyere, assured journalists that all necessary preparations had been completed to ensure a smooth and orderly process.

Similar activities are ongoing in several constituencies across the country. At the Light Academy in Adentan, the Social Welfare Centre in Madina, and the Korle Bu Police Station in Ablekuma South, voting has begun, with polls in Ablekuma South officially opening at 7:18 a.m.

At Maranatha University College, voting started at 7:20 a.m., with 1,465 delegates expected to participate. Meanwhile, in Ablekuma North, delegates are voting at Odorkor Saleria Basic Schools 1 and 2, where a total of 1,482 delegates are expected to vote across two polling stations.

Voting has also commenced at the New Gbawe 1 M/A Primary School in the Weija-Gbawe Constituency, where polls opened promptly at 7:15 a.m. In the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, voting began earlier at 7:00 a.m.

In the Western Region, the Effia Constituency has also begun voting, with 501 delegates expected to participate. As of 7:16 a.m., nine delegates had already cast their ballots, with a strong police presence ensuring security and order.

Voting has also commenced at the Teshie Anglican Primary ‘B’, Harrow International Preparatory School in Okaikwei Central, the Ayawaso North voting centre where the first ballot was cast at 7:10 a.m., and at Bimbilla, where voting also began at 7:10 a.m. Polls are equally underway at the Pastoral Centre in Sunyani East.

In total, over 211,000 delegates are expected to vote at more than 300 polling centres nationwide. Five aspirants are contesting the race: former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
