National Security seizes 12 containers of gold bars, fake US dollars
National Security has uncovered a major haul, seizing large amounts of US dollars and Ghana cedis, including counterfeit notes, hidden in twelve 20ft shipping containers.
The containers were traced to a warehouse in Sapeiman, Ga South Municipality, where a special late-night operation was carried out following a tip-off. The operation led to the discovery of the illicit currency.
During the operation, large bundles of US dollars were found hidden inside wooden boxes, which were then covered in cement.
As the operation continued, investigators opened additional boxes in the warehouse and discovered more currency, suspected to be counterfeit, sealed in plywood and concealed with charcoal.
National Security operatives involved in the raid have confirmed that two containers are still unaccounted for but are being actively tracked.
While several suspects linked to the crime syndicate remain at large, a manhunt is underway for four individuals, including the suspected ringleader, identified only as Alhaji for now.
In addition to the seized counterfeit US dollars and Ghana cedis, National Security operatives uncovered a range of other illicit items during the warehouse operation.
Among the items were boxes containing metal objects suspected to be gold bars. Also found were large quantities of counterfeit Ghana cedi notes, specifically in denominations of 50 and 100 cedis.
Further investigation revealed fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots, raising concerns about the potential for these items to be used for illicit purposes, including impersonation and fraud.
The operation continues as authorities work to trace the origins of these items and dismantle the criminal network behind the operation.
