National security followed protocol in ex-BoG Governor’s raid – Richard Kumadoe

Security Analyst Richard Kumadoe has called for clarity on the recent raid at the home of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), emphasizing that proper procedures were followed by the National Security operatives.

Speaking on the issue, Kumadoe clarified that it was not the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), now the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), that conducted the raid, but rather operatives from the National Security Secretariat.

“Let’s put it in proper context. It wasn’t the BNI who entered the house of the former governor of BoG; it was security operatives from the National Security Secretariat. Even if it were the BNI or NIB, they may search your premises with or without a warrant and arrest you. Once they have a warrant, it means you have come under some level of investigation,” Kumadoe explained.

He added that security operatives typically follow standard protocol by announcing their presence and introducing themselves before conducting searches.

“For the narratives we are hearing so far, there may be misinformation out there, and we need to put things into perspective,” he noted.

According to Kumadoe, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) had previously granted bail to the former Lands Minister and a former Finance Minister, but in the case of the former BoG governor, the details need to be properly understood.

“If they invaded or raided his house, we will know these guys are from the BNI because they will announce their presence and the reason for their visit,” he emphasized.

The raid at the former governor’s residence has sparked public debate, with some questioning the government’s approach to handling alleged financial misconduct.

However, authorities insist that due process was followed, and any further actions will be by the law.
