Napo’s brother, five others show interest in Manhyia South seat

Following Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s confirmation as the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2024 presidential election, the race to fill his position as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South has commenced.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued guidelines as it races against time to replace the energy minister. The election will be held on Sunday (14 July).

At least six people are eyeing the seat. Posters of these aspirants, including Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, the Manhyia South constituency treasurer and biological brother of Dr Opoku Prempeh have emerged on social media indicating their interest in contesting the seat.

The others include Nana Ama Timah, deputy chief executive at the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, a private legal practitioner, and Akwasi Coker Gyambibi, lawyer Kingsley Bonsu Kyeretwie, second vice chairman for the NPP in Manhyia South.

Other potential candidates are also engaging with delegates in private meetings to discuss their aspirations and garner support.

As the campaign unfolds, the constituency is expected to witness heightened political activity as aspirants vie to succeed Dr Opoku Prempeh, who has been a significant figure in the area since 2008.
