Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency, Sam George has described the Akufo-Addo led government as one that lacks wisdom and compassion for human beings.
According to him, government’s unwillingness to solve basic problems confronting Ghanaians on a daily basis clearly shows its apathy towards their struggles.
Speaking on TV3’s Newsday show monitored by The Ghana Report, he accused the NPP government of negligence, adding that, due to their pettiness and parochial reasons, the (NPP) government has refused to open hospitals, schools, CHPS compounds built by the erstwhile Mahama government to the general public.
“When you take the services sector, you look at areas like Finance and Insurance, it is growing in negative eight per cent and areas like the Health and Social work that affects the ordinary Ghanaian because the government refused to open hospitals Mahama built it has dropped from 22.6 per cent to 16.2 per cent……”
“…. When you have the Maritime Hospital, The Bank of Ghana Hospital, District level hospitals that were built by John Mahama, you’ve left them to become breeding grounds for snakes” he said
Expressing his frustration, the Member of Parliament questioned why 48 newly procured ambulances will be packed at the state house idle when there are district hospitals without one and citizens are losing their lives in situations that could have been savaged.
“Look at the ambulances in the health sector, just on Sunday, we saw the accident in the Denkyira area, they needed ambulances and the Minister of Special Initiative is telling us that, you are not going to release those ambulance till 2020 in an election year.”
“…You see, the problem of this government is a wisdom problem, this government does not think because if you’re a government that thinks and has the milk of human compassion in your vein and you are not only thinking about winning the next elections, you will not come and park 48 ambulances for over two-months in front of Parliament House while Ghanaians are dying. You are telling me that is not an emergency, are you waiting for a tsunami to happen before?” he asked.
Government would have to explain to the good people of Ghana why taxpayers money has been used to procure ambulances and left to sit idle at the State House while people lose their lives in situations that could have be saved by an ambulance.
BACKGROUND
Government has provided an update on the ambulance brouhaha following the Minority’s three day-ultimatum to ensure the ambulances procured serve it purpose.
The Minority in Parliament had given government a three-day ultimatum to quickly distribute the over forty (40) ambulances parked at the forecourt of the Parliament.
So far, a total of forty-eight (48) ambulances have been parked for months at the forecourt of the Parliament House in Accra since they arrived in the country.
The delay in the distribution of the ambulances have left many questioning the rationale behind the move hence the decision by the information ministry to update Ghanaians to clear doubts.
