Nana Addo appoints David Dontoh as chairman of National Film Authority

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Veteran David Dontoh as Chairman of the National Film Authority.

The new Governing Board of the National Film Authority comprises 14 members which will be led by David Dontoh.

The team includes Juliet Asante, who is acting as the executive secretary, Madam Yaa Attafua, Mrs. Dora Darkwa- Mensah, Dr. Samuel Anyetei Nai and Mr. Samuel Fiscian.

The rest are Zakaria Abdulai, Koffi Nartey, Akorfa Ejeani, Kofi Ohemeng Owusu, Rukiyaty Ankrah, Samuel Gyandoh, and Ernest Boateng.

President Akufo-Addo, who inaugurated the board explained the role is to supervise an economically, self-sustaining and culturally conscious film industry in the country.

The team is expected to advise the Minister on matters affecting the film industry, to facilitate the establishment of a circuit for the distribution and marketing of the Ghanaian films throughout the country and internationally.

They will also ensure the development and administration of a code of ethics for the film industry, oversee the Film Development Fund and set standards for training and accreditation of practitioners in the film industry.

The inauguration of the board comes after many years of industry folk calling on powers that be for the formation of the authority.

At the press meeting earlier, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Barbara Oteng Gyasi said with the aid of the film act, the film industry will produce, develop strong content for distribution, exhibition, and marketing of films and related matters.
