NADMO raises alarm over illegal sand mining along Fetteh Beach
Management of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has bemoaned the activity of illegal sand mining along Fetteh Beach.
This activity has triggered significant coastal erosion and other environmental issues that could lead to long-term devastation if not tackled soon.
The NADMO team, led by Central Regional NADMO Director Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Dawood, who visited the area, noticed substantial risks to local infrastructure and livelihoods.
Mr. Dawood further called upon traditional authorities to urgently collaborate with the Assembly and NADMO to put an end to this troubling issue.
He added that directives have been issued to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), traditional authorities, landlords, NADMO management, security agencies, and other stakeholders within the district to join forces with NADMO’s operational team as they find alternative measures to curb the menace.
“Sand mining is a ticking time bomb, and we will not sit down for this beautiful natural sea defence to be destroyed by unpatriotic citizens and entrepreneurs,” Mr. Dawood stated firmly.
He urged the Gomoa East MCE, Madam Margaret Naana Ackon, as well as the local NADMO Director, to take legal action against anyone, regardless of their political ties, who does not adhere to the provided directives.
Additionally, he encouraged residents, particularly those in Fetteh, to take action by stopping tipper trucks that operate along the coastline both day and night.
Meanwhile, authorities have expressed their commitment to enhancing their monitoring and enforcement efforts in the days ahead to protect Fetteh Beach and ensure the safety of both lives and property.
