NACOC and FDA raid cannabis liqueur factory in Offinso
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have raided an illegal cannabis-infused alcoholic beverage production facility situated within a poultry farm in the Offinso Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The illegal facility in Ntiribuoho is hidden within a two-bedroom house situated among poultry facilities.
Intelligence gathered that the site was being utilised to produce a cannabis-infused liqueur known as Famude, also marketed under the name Kings Orange Flavoured Liqueur.
The operation involved seven officers, four from NACOC and three from the FDA. During the raid, a substantial quantity of unauthorised alcoholic beverages and suspected narcotics were confiscated.
One individual was arrested on-site, while others managed to escape and are currently being sought by law enforcement.
Following the operation, officials from NACOC and the FDA reiterated their dedication to safeguarding public health and safety by targeting the illicit production and distribution of unlicensed products.
They issued a warning about the dangers of unregulated items like cannabis-laced liqueurs, which not only pose significant health risks but also violate Ghana’s drug and food safety regulations.
“This operation underscores our joint resolve to clamp down on the distribution of harmful and illegal substances in our communities. We are intensifying surveillance and enforcement across the country,” a spokesperson for the FDA said.
Authorities are calling on the public to report any suspicious activities and to avoid consuming unapproved products that could endanger their health.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspect is currently assisting with investigations, while efforts to track down the remaining suspects are underway.
