Scores of unpaid workers under government’s Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) are expected to march to the secretariat today October 28, 2019 over delay in payment of their allowances.

They are accusing managers of the scheme of neglect.

It follows several demands and petitions made by the trainees to their employer to release their allowances which they say have been in arrears since May 2019.

This is coming at a time when government is flaunting its achievement with the one-year old scheme.

“we have been working for over five months now and we’re not receiving our salary as we’re supposed to. It is not as though the system has broken down because our other colleagues receive theirs. We submit our time sheet together and this is an evidence that you have been to work and it will be endorsed by your supervisor. We all submit ours but some receive theirs and you don’t” a trainee said.

He added that “we will be going to the secretariat to demand that our stipend be paid and we’re about fifty (50). These are those who have volunteered to come”.

The group had issued numerous threats to demonstrate if government through the NABCO secretariat fails to pay them what they are due.

Blame trainees for payment delays

The Greater Accra regional coordinator of NABCO, Mohammed Baba has laid the blame of delay in payment of allowances at the door step of the trainees.

According to him, the trainees fail to submit their time sheet promptly hence the delay in payment. He also accused them of failing to update their personal information on the portal as they have been instructed to do, insisting his outfit cannot be held responsible for the delays.

But the coalition of NABCO trainees have denied the claims made by the regional coordinator.
