The Ghana Police Service has arrested suspect Imarana Abdulai Gomda at Tamale in the Northern Region for possession of firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.
The suspect was arrested at the Datoyili barrier on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
Upon arrest, the police retrieved two SMG rifles with six (6) rounds of 9MM ammunition and two (2) empty magazines from the suspect.
The suspect is currently in custody, assisting the police with investigations.
Meanwhile, the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, has banned individuals from carrying firearms, ammunition, or offensive weapons as part of measures to mitigate conflicts in some parts of the Northern Region.
The ministry has assured that anyone possessing such arms or ammunition will face arrest and prosecution.
