Mzbel arrested

A Ghanaian radio personality and artiste, Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known in the entertainment circles as Mzbel, has been arrested by the Ghana Police.

Details are that the ‘Sweet Saucy’ hitmaker was arrested by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command on the back of a complaint lodged by a television personality, Stacey Amoateng.

Mrs Amoateng is reported to have lodged a defamation complaint against Mzbel.

Under Ghana’s law, however, defamation is purely a civil matter, meaning the offended party must take legal action for remedy.

The hiplife musician is alleged to have said that the television personality had a dreaded disease (name withheld) per information she got from Prophet Nigel Gaisie.

Both the singer and the TV personality are yet to comment on the issue.

This is not the first time the artiste has been arrested by the police.

In June 2011, the celebrated Ghanaian songstress spent the weekend weeping in police cells for having assaulted a police officer.

Mzbel and two other accomplices were arrested by officials of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) for physically assaulting a uniformed policeman on official duty.

The musician and two others were reported to have deliberately run their Mitsubishi 4×4 vehicle with registration number GR 9470-11 into the policeman who fell on the bonnet of the vehicle.

According to reports, they then speed off and drove for a distance, with the policeman still hooked dangerously on the bonnet while eyewitnesses screamed at the horror of what was happening.

Their vehicle was eventually forced to stop when it was crossed by a private security van.
