My VGMA win has set a standard for me to work harder —Perez Muzik

ONE person who went home a very satisfied person after the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) last Saturday, May 6, was Gospel artiste Perez Muzik who won Best Male Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year awards.

Perez Muzik is besides himself with excitement for winning the two prestigious awards and gives all the gratitude to God Most High.

In a chat with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, May 8, Perez Musik explained the feeling after winning the awards, saying, “it was ecstatic, it was an amazing feeling that finally the hard work is being recognised, we are into soul winning but to have your peers and people in the industry appreciate what you do, I think is worth being happy about.

Considering that the two categories he won were very competitive, we asked Perez Muzik, born Frank Tagoe, what worked for him on the night?

“I can’t tell exactly what did the magic but I will say it was the grace and favour of God because all the people in the categories were tough, and it could have gone to any of them but He favoured me.

“It was not even a matter of luck but grace because all the other contenders worked very hard in the year under review so I would say grace found me”, he stated.

Perez Muzik, whose Hewale Lala single won him the two awards, says a standard has been set for him to work even harder, “a standard has been set for me—production-wise and also for me to know that things that I am doing are helping to save lives and I do not have to relent on that. It is a form of encouragement for me to do more”, he added.

Does Perez Muzik have plans of doing collaborations with secular musicians? “It depends on the direction and purpose of the project because I stand for certain values”, he said.

The Hewale Lala singer who has been doing music professionally since 2015 is also known for songs such as Amen, Fresh Fire, Ayeyi Ndwom, The Light featuring MOG, among others.

He has also graced stages like the 23rd Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, MTN Stands in Worship, Adom Praise, Joy FM Staff Durbar and Onua TV Outdoor Concert.

Perez Muzik also held his own concert, Outpouring at ICGC, Father’s House, Dansoman. He intends to host another one this year at the Victory Bible Church, Dominion Centre, on August 27.
