The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has disclosed that his residence at Cantonments in Accra was nearly sold to a private developer while he was still living there.
According to Mr Bagbin, he only learned about the situation when the private developer went to the Lands Commission to register the land.
“Many of you don’t know that even the residence of the Speaker was almost sold to the private sector. Actually, it was given out. It was when they went to register that the Lands Commission identified that that was the residence of the Speaker. Luckily, I was inside, so it was saved,” Mr Bagbin said during a speech at the Speaker’s Breakfast Forum in Accra on Monday, November 20, 2023.
Not long after the Speaker’s statement, the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi constituency, Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, shared the information on Twitter (X), and many netizens reacted to the information.

The Lands Commissioners involved in the transfers of State Properties into private hands should be made to face trial and jailed without any options.

More discoveries could come when Npp exit power. Am sure the sit of govt is in someone’s name. That’s how Npp political actors call ‘property owning democracy’. In other juridictions, this is stealing. Those who buy such estates should forfait them.
