My ministry not for naming and shaming – Evaluation Minister announces fair to showcase NPP results

Public disclosure of underperforming agencies and ministries for the purpose of shaming is not the mandate of the Ministry for Monitoring and Evaluation, sector minister Dr Anthony Akoto Osei has stated.

Dispelling what he said are misconceptions about his ministry and perceived failure to ensure accountability in the implementation of government policies by the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Dr Osei noted:

“Contrary to public perception, my ministry’s role is not to name and shame [but] rather we work in tandem with the MDAs to determine what is wrong, what is working, what is not working and how to seek real-time solutions to implementation challenges so that the MDAs are able to optimize the effects of their policies and programmes”.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Tafo was speaking at a press launch of the ‘Results Fair’ on Thursday, January 2, 2019.

The ‘Results Fair’ is a programme designed by the government to communicate its achievements in various sectors. It is spearheaded by the Ministry for Monitoring and Evaluation in collaboration with the Ministry of Information with sponsorship from the World Bank Public Sector Reform for Results Project (PSRRP), Dr Osei disclosed.

It is scheduled to take place from January 14 to January 16, 2020, and will be launched by President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo.

This will create a platform for the MDA’s to reveal the progress of government performance on the economy and other flagship interventions including the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme, the One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) programme, the One-Village-One-Dam (1V1D) and the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ).

Dr Osei explained that the initiative will promote inclusive engagements and interactions between the public sector and the citizenry to encourage “evidence-based decision making to improve accountability for results”.
