MUSIGA to Host All-Women Festival as Part of Golden Jubilee Celebrations in 2025
The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is gearing up for a grand Golden Jubilee celebration in 2025, marking 50 years of advocating for musicians’ rights and advancing Ghana’s music industry.
During the official launch of the celebrations on November 7, 2024, at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons unveiled an exciting lineup of events to commemorate the milestone.
The celebration will feature a series of concerts with both local and international artists, as well as lectures, symposiums, a gala dinner, and much more.
However, one of the standout events will be an all-women festival aimed at highlighting the achievements and talents of female musicians globally.
“We have something very special planned, and that is an all-women festival,” announced Simons during the launch.
The festival will showcase performances by female musicians from around the world, and Simons extended an open invitation for women artists to participate.
The festival will feature a mix of indoor and outdoor performances, including church programs. Simons revealed plans to bring prominent international artists, such as gospel legend Cece Winans, to collaborate with Ghanaian musicians, fostering global musical exchange and unity.
“We are expecting women from all over the world to come to Ghana and perform on stage. It will be self-sponsored for those coming from outside, and all embassies will help in spreading the word,” he said.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations will also aim to promote greater harmony between Ghanaian artists and international performers, culminating in a powerful musical collaboration by the end of 2025.
Founded on December 9, 1975, MUSIGA has played a pivotal role in advocating for musicians’ rights, preserving Ghana’s rich musical heritage, and advancing the local music industry.
The upcoming celebrations are set to honour this legacy while shining a spotlight on the contributions of women in music.
