A 27-year-old musician, Zumankyere Amos, popularly known as Skelenzy, has died from fatal injuries three weeks after he was “mistakenly” shot by the police at Wa in the Upper West Region.
Skelenzy and his friend Fidelis were returning from Kaleo when the incident happened close to Loho Primary School.
Skelenzy is a native of Daffiema but resides in Loho, in the Wa Municipality.
He was mistakenly shot by the police while riding his motorcycle.
The bullets pierced through his abdomen, also grazing Fidelis’s thigh, who was riding a pillion.
Both victims were quickly rushed to the Regional Hospital by the police for urgent medical attention.
Skelenzy is survived by a wife and two children.
Despite undergoing two surgeries during his three-week hospitalization, Skelenzy’s condition remained critical.
Fidelis, the other victim of the shooting, is thankfully recovering from his injuries and is currently in stable condition.
The police administration has yet to comment on this issue.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation, with many calling for transparency and accountability in law enforcement practices.
