Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has justified its decision to implement a 15% price hike across its offerings for prepaid and postpaid customers.
The price adjustment, effective Tuesday, November 28, 2023, impacts voice, SMS, and data services, as well as fibre broadband and fixed wireless access (4G router/turbonet) customers.
The move has sparked heated debate among some Ghanaians, who have expressed dissatisfaction on social media platforms.
In a statement, the telecommunications giant explained that the price increase was necessary to sustain its business operations.
“The review has become necessary due to increased operational costs. The review will allow MTN Ghana to continue to make the investments required to sustain its business going forward,” the statement said.
Chief Commercial Officer for MTN Ghana, Noel Kojo-Ganson, shed light on the rationale behind the price adjustment, attributing it to market pressures and challenging economic conditions.
“We are very mindful of the challenging economic conditions and the increasing cost of inputs for our business. The price review is necessary to enable us to continue to sustain the business and make the needed investments in the network and new innovations to enhance customer experience,” Mr Kojo-Ganson stressed.
The telecommunications company emphasized its commitment to maintaining the quality of its services and making essential investments to enhance the overall customer experience.
