MP condemns alleged detention of BECE candidates by headmaster
Onyina-Akyeampong Akwasi Gyamfi, the Member of Parliament for Kwabre East, has strongly condemned the alleged detention of two Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates by the headmaster of their school.
The students were reportedly locked up by the headmaster of the Big Six Educational Complex in Meduma, a private school in the Kwabre East Municipality, due to unsettled school fees and alleged refusal to participate in a school-organised pre-exam camp.
Due to this, the students missed the first paper on Monday, which was Mathematics.
Speaking in an interview, the MP said he had lodged a formal complaint with the law enforcement agency and hoped the management of the school would face the law for their action.
“I am personally interested in this matter. I have sent a report to the crime officer, and I want the individual involved to be held accountable for his actions. I understand that a similar incident occurred at the same school last year, so I intend to pursue this case seriously,” he noted in the interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Citi News.
Since the issue came to the limelight, the management of the school has yet to respond to the allegation.
