Motorists are suffering – Afenyo-Markin on road project delays
Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin has raised red flags over stalled infrastructure works across Ghana, citing the Kasoa-Winneba road dualisation project as a major concern for road users.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, July 2, Afenyo-Markin expressed frustration over the halted progress, explaining that contractors have abandoned various sites nationwide due to unpaid government arrears.
He noted that the delay is severely affecting motorists who rely on the stretch between Kasoa and Winneba.
His call came shortly after the House approved a $360 million financing deal with the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group, aimed at supporting Ghana’s post-crisis economic recovery and building resilience.
Despite the fresh financial support, the MP and Minority Leader stressed that action must be swift to address outstanding debts owed to contractors.
“The Kasoa-Winneba road, the contractor has left the site, and it is making motorists suffer. Mr Speaker, I would like you to let them know that the contractors are working on major roads that need to be completed,” Afenyo-Markin said during his submission.
The lawmaker urged the government to immediately prioritise payments to ensure the resumption and timely completion of critical projects that impact everyday lives.
