A 23-year-old motorcyclist, Elvis Ashitey, has been remanded in police custody by an Accra Circuit Court for attempted robbery at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Ashitey, also known as Ratty, pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempting to commit robbery.

The incident occurred on October 2, 2024.

Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Josephine Lamptey told the Court that the complainant was a level 300 Planning student at Central University in the Greater Accra Region and Ashitey was a motorcyclist and a resident of Sukura, Accra.

The Court heard that the student had closed from the Family Planning Unit and the complainant crossed the road to a junction leading to the hospital mortuary to board the school bus.

As she crossed the road, Ashitey allegedly approached her on his motorcycle and forcefully grabbed her bag containing personal items, including an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The student refused to let go, and both Ashitey and the student fell to the ground.

Witnesses intervened, apprehending Ashitey, and the hospital’s patrol team took him to the police station.

The student was issued a police medical report after complaining of bruises and body pains.

The court presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, has scheduled Ashitey’s next appearance for October 23, 2024.
