Most victims of Roman Ridge building collapse discharged – GNFS
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says most of the victims injured in Tuesday’s building collapse at Roman Ridge have been treated and discharged, while a few remain in hospital receiving care.
According to the Service’s Head of Public Relations, Desmond Ackah, the condition of all the victims has now stabilised.
“As of yesterday around 9:00 p.m., we received information that some of the victims had been discharged, with only a few still under observation. Thankfully, they are all out of danger,” Mr. Ackah said.
He noted that investigations are already underway to determine the cause of the collapse. In the meantime, the GNFS has secured the site and suspended all ongoing construction activities.
“We have cordoned off the area and directed the contractors to halt any further work until investigations are completed,” he added.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Roman Ridge Engineering Centre, located between a ten-storey apartment complex and the Ghana Institute of Engineering.
The collapsed structure, reportedly being built by Fabrico Builders, trapped 14 male workers, all of whom were rescued and taken to the 37 Military Hospital and Ridge Hospital.
Fire Service officials, along with engineers and safety inspectors, are expected to carry out a detailed assessment to identify what caused the structure to collapse.
Mr. Ackah said the Service is optimistic that the remaining victims will soon be discharged.
“We are hopeful that the rest will recover fully and leave the hospital soon,” he said.
Authorities have assured the public that further updates will be provided once the investigation report is ready.
