MoH denies $34.9m payment to Ghana Auto Group for spare parts

The Ministry of Health  (MoH) has refuted allegations of paying $34.9 million to the Ghana Auto Group Limited for the provision of spare parts.

This was in response to claims made by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, stating that a procurement deal for ambulance spare parts worth $34 million was a conspiracy involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, former Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, and a private company linked to President Akufo-Addo’s two daughters, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo and Edwina Akufo-Addo, in an attempt to defraud the state.

Ministry of Health in a statement dated Thursday, July 25, 2024, dismissed these allegations and expressed its willingness to support any efforts that will bring further clarity to the issue because it is of national interest.

“The Ministry of Health would like to clarify that the Service Provider, Ghana Auto Group Limited, has not been paid an amount of $34.9 million as widely reported.”

“All documentation covering this transaction is a matter of public record and can be accessed by the public. The Ministry of Health is ready to support any effort that will bring further clarity to this issue in the interest of the public.”

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to establishing a sustainable maintenance regime for all fleets procured for the National Ambulance Service.

“The Ministry of Health is committed to ensuring a sustainable maintenance regime for all fleets procured for the National Ambulance Service to provide reliable, efficient, and safe emergency medical services”.
