The Majority in Parliament has urged the Minority to reconsider their decision on vetting Deputy Minister-designate for Trade and Industry, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo.

The Minority boycotted the vetting process, citing the current economic difficulties and the need for a reduction in government size rather than an addition.

The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, issued a press statement saying, “We are again unable to support this nomination by President Akufo-Addo at this time because our country has gone through (and continues to go through) very difficult periods, including the crippling economic crisis, food insecurity, debt default as a result of excessive borrowing, corruption in government and wasteful and reckless expenditures.”

Responding to the Minority’s stance, the Majority Caucus described the reasons for their action as “regrettable.”

The Majority Caucus stressed in a release the government’s commitment to a comprehensive approach when it comes to addressing national challenges.

They highlighted the government’s efforts to engage with various sectors and stakeholders to address the country’s challenges and encouraged the Minority to participate in the vetting process to ensure the smooth functioning of government.

“Our compatriots nationwide will not view this august House charitably should we enable an interruption in governance merely on account of pending elections,” the statement added.
