The Minority Caucus in Parliament has strongly accused the Attorney-General (A-G), Dr. Dominic Ayine, of overstepping his mandate by allegedly ordering raids, arrests, and investigations targeting former government officials.
According to the Minority Caucus, these actions carried out by national security operatives under the Attorney-General’s directives undermine the constitutional role of his office and amount to an abuse of power.
Addressing the press in Parliament on Monday, March 24, Second Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib condemned the recent raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.
He demanded that the Attorney-General immediately cease such operations and offer a formal apology to Dr. Addison.
Ahmed Shaib described the raid as highly questionable, citing images circulating on social media that depict destruction and a ransacked home.
He questioned the legality of the operation, claiming that no court warrant was presented before or during the raid.
“Brute force was used to overpower private security,” he stated and raised concerns about the removal of CCTV cameras from the premises.
“Transparency is the bedrock of lawful enforcement; the failure to follow basic legal procedures raises serious concerns about the motive and legality of the operation. No amount of legal gymnastics or public relations spin can erase these facts,” he said.
The Minority Caucus insists that without due process, such actions set a dangerous precedent and constitute a clear abuse of authority.
They are calling for an immediate end to these practices and a public apology to Dr. Addison.
