The minority in parliament has given government a three-day ultimatum to quickly distribute the over forty (40) ambulances parked at the forecourt of the parliament.

Government is expected to distribute some two hundred and seventy-five (275) ambulances to all constituency under its one constituency one ambulance initiative.

So far, a total of forty-eight (48) ambulances have been parked for months at the forecourt of the Parliament House in Accra since they arrived in the country.

Government said it will distribute the ambulances in 2020 after it has taken custody of all three hundred ambulances expected to arrive in the country.

The delay in the distribution of the ambulances have left many questioning the rationale behind the move.

But Minister for special development initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson said the move is to ensure a fair distribution of all ambulances to all constituencies.

The latest to demand the release of the ambulances is the minority in parliament. They have given the Akufo Addo-led administration a three-day ultimatum to release the ambulances to serve its intended purpose.

Ranking member on the health committee of Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akando accused government of failing to prioritize the health sector.

” we’re all aware that people have been dying everyday for lack of ambulances in the system. We have seen ambulances parked here for months and you know the purposes for ambulances are for emergency purposes. So if you buy ambulances and you park them without serving its intended purposes, how will the country benefit from the ambulances” he quizzed.

He further noted that “I don’t know if government doesn’t know what it means by emergency purposes or I don’t understand. So as a matter of urgency, we’re calling on the President to immediately distribute the ambulances that are available to serve their purposes. If we park the ambulances like we have done, we are doing a disservice to the country. So we are giving the President a maximum of three days to distribute the ambulances”.
