Minority Changes Seating Arrangements Following Leadership Reshuffle

The Minority in Parliament has effected changes to its seating arrangements in Parliament following the leadership reshuffle.

The black seat, which initially had the former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu’s name, has been replaced with Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the new Minority Leader.

Seated next to Dr Ato Forson is the Ellembelle MP Armah Kofi-Buah, followed by Kwame Governs Agbodza, the new Minority Chief Whip.

Other name tags have been removed, with some positioned in the middle and others far back.

Although the Tamale South MP is yet to comment on his removal, he was seen chatting heartily with Korle Klottey MP Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings and other legislators as Parliament reconvened today (Tuesday, February 7, 2023).

Already, the former Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has said an intervention by former President John Dramani Mahama had ended all the brouhaha associated with the reshuffle.

“To all our supporters within and without. I had a lengthy meeting with my big brother, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, over the parliamentary reshuffle on Saturday evening. I want to, first of all, thank him for his words of advice and encouragement to me as a younger brother.

“His Excellency’s intervention has brought an end to all the brouhaha associated with the reshuffle. We are in the interest of our party NDC. We need to move on as a party and channel all our energies toward the 2024 elections.

“I thank all our chiefs, Queen Mothers Imams, and supporters for your prayers and solidarity. I pray for Allah’s guidance in all our affairs. Long live NDC, long live Ghana,” he said in a post.

It will be recalled that early this year, the NDC, as part of its restructuring, announced that Kwame Governs Agbodza would replace Asawase MP Muntaka Mubarak as the new Minority Chief Whip.

In the case of Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, he was replaced with Cassiel Ato Forson while Deputy Minority Leader James Klutse Avedzi was also removed and replaced with Ellembelle MP Armah Kofi Buah.

This led to some differences over what the aggrieved NDC MPs described as a “lack of consultation”.

But after a meeting that was jointly called by the national leadership, the Council of Elders and the Minority Caucus in Parliament, the issue has been resolved.

The party has decided to throw its weight behind the new Minority leadership with Cassiel Ato Forson as a leader.
