Minority caucus condemns nullification of Kpandai parliamentary election

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed concerns regarding the recent High Court decision that invalidated the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Kpandai Constituency.

They asserted that the 2024 electoral process was conducted transparently and that the results accurately represented the electorate’s will.

In a statement released on Monday, November 24, the caucus highlighted that the contested MP, Mathew Nyindam, secured victory in the election by a margin of 3,734 votes.

The Minority alleged that after the announcement of the presidential results, the NDC parliamentary candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, arrived at the collation centre accompanied by supporters in an effort to disrupt the proceedings, damaging ballot boxes and posing security threats.

This situation, they claimed, compelled the Electoral Commission to relocate the final declaration to its regional office in Tamale, where Mr. Nyindam was ultimately declared the winner with 27,947 votes compared to Mr. Wakpal’s 24,213.

The statement, which was signed by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, indicated that the NDC candidate subsequently initiated a court challenge, citing his absence from Tamale and minor clerical errors in 41 polling stations.

The Minority contended that even if all disputed votes, approximately 500, were awarded to Mr. Wakpal, he would still have lost by a margin exceeding 3,000 votes.
