Three people have died after a mining pit collapsed at Manso Takorase in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.
The tragic incident happened on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, when six miners entered an abandoned pit to work but became trapped inside.
Speaking in an interview, the Assembly Member for Manso Takorase, Bonsu Dominic, confirmed that a rescue team managed to retrieve three survivors, while the remaining three were found dead.
The Amansie area, notorious for intensive mining activities, has recorded several similar accidents in recent years.
The latest disaster has renewed urgent calls for stricter enforcement of mining laws and intensified public education on safety practices.
The deceased have been taken to the St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital morgue. Meanwhile, police and local authorities have launched investigations into the cause of the collapse.
This tragedy follows another mining accident at Kasotie in the Atwima Mponua District, where seven people lost their lives and five others sustained injuries.
