Military Helicopter goes missing en route to Obuasi
A Ghana Air Force helicopter Z9 with eight individuals on board has gone missing after taking off from Accra this morning, according to a press release from military officials.
The helicopter left the capital at 9:12 AM heading towards Obuasi but lost radar contact shortly after departure, as reported by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
“All efforts are being made to establish contact,” stated the release signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations.
The helicopter was carrying three crew members and five passengers, but their identities and the purpose of the mission have not been disclosed at this time. Search operations are currently underway, with additional updates promised as they become available.
The Z9 helicopter, which is typically used for transport and medical evacuation, was last detected over an undisclosed area. The GAF has requested that media outlets share this alert, emphasising, “For favour of publication, please”.
Defence analysts indicate that adverse weather or technical difficulties may be contributing factors, but authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the incident.
